Sparkling Wine Tasting Class – Dosage Trials!
One of the crucial decisions a winemaker must make is “how sweet should the wine be”? Brut? Extra Dry? Demi-Sec? We are going to let you decide!
All Champagnes and sparkling wines age as completely dry (not sweet) wines, yet sweet-styled sparkling wines were the most popular until the late-1800s, when “Brut” appeared on the scene and came to completely dominate the marketplace. The amount of sweetness in the dosage decides the style of wine, and we have multiple bottles of a sparkling wine to which we have added different levels of sweetness. Come taste them for yourselves, and get this rare insight into making sparkling wines. Then, we’ll try the finished wine along with some surprises.
Class size is limited to 24 people and designed for all levels. Students must be over 21. Tickets includes a taste of eight different wines, light refreshments and a booklet of knowledge for you to take home.

About the instructor:
Jason Brandt Lewis began working in the wine industry at 16, when he began working for his uncle’s wine shop. By 18, he was visiting wineries in California to buy wine for all six of his family’s stores. While attending UCSC, he volunteered to work during harvest for a number of local wineries. Following his graduation, he has held a variety of positions in the wine trade, including at Louis M. Martini Winery in the Napa Valley, and Storrs Winery in Santa Cruz. He was the Director of Wine Education and a wine buyer for Liquor Barn; a wholesale rep for a small Northern California importer; and the National Sales Manager for an importer based in San Francisco. Along the way, he has written articles for a number of national and local publications (Wine World, The Wine Spectator, the Santa Cruz Express, Taste, the Santa Cruz Sentinel, etc.). Jason has served as a Wine Judge at various competitions throughout the West, and serves on the Calif. State Fair Wine Competition Advisory Board.
